PM981a is Samsung's updated OEM Gen3 NVMe drive, offered without retail packaging through PC-maker supply channels. 256GB is a practical boot-drive size for an older desktop or laptop upgrade. Check that your motherboard or laptop has a free M.2 2280 slot with NVMe (PCIe) support; PCIe 4.0 drives also work in PCIe 3.0 slots at the slot's lower speed. Used drives are sold as-is — please back up any data on the drive you replace.
It is an NVMe M.2 2280 drive using PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe. It does not work in an M.2 slot that is SATA-only.
