The 980 is Samsung's entry Gen3 NVMe drive, built without DRAM cache but still offering a solid jump over SATA SSDs for everyday use, game loading and boot times. Check that your motherboard or laptop has a free M.2 2280 slot with NVMe (PCIe) support; PCIe 4.0 drives also work in PCIe 3.0 slots at the slot's lower speed. Used drives are sold as-is — please back up any data on the drive you replace.
It is an NVMe M.2 2280 drive using PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe. It does not work in an M.2 slot that is SATA-only.
